Failures on Friday

Last Friday was one of "those days" - a day that, by noon, I was ready to hang it up, wave my white flag, beg for a margarita/beer/shot of something. It just wasn't working.

First, Jack scared the heck out of me with a tongue laceration. He was jumping on the couch and managed to bite through his tongue. If you've ever seen a tongue injury - you know, they bleed. A LOT. My initial panic was off set by an abnormal sense of reason - that told me to call someone. Tyson was first. No answer. Dr. Kassey (bff from college) was second and she picked up. Her advice was priceless. She spoke, not only as a dentist, but also as a mom - which is pretty much exactly what I needed. Her best bit of info: "I bet he's jumping on the couch again in 45 minutes." And - YES - he absolutely was...

Happy to report the tongue incident was behind us by nap time. Jack was feeling fine. After nap time - things took another turn downhill. I was preparing for Nancy to come visit...but every time I entered a room, a child was making a mess.
Seriously. What is it about a big box of very small toys that says "DUMP ME ON THE FLOOR!" ??
Then I discovered Josie's artistic talents on the wall... The teacher in me did note the straight lines, though.
And then, as I was scrubbing the wall - she "decorated" her face with mascara. Again. Needless to say, by 6pm - I was about to meltdown. It was Grandma Nancy to the rescue. She took over kid duties and sent Tyson & me to a Craft Beer Party...which was actually another form of torture - for a pregnant lady who really just needed a beer.

Weekend Wrap Up

Grandma Nancy headed back to Fort Wayne on Saturday morning...and about two hours later Tyson and I both agreed that she is welcome back ANY time. We spent the day being kind of lazy. Saturday night we toasted with Gator colored cupcakes. But sadly, Florida lost. And then Wisconsin lost. And NO ONE in this house was happy. Here's the thing about blue food coloring - when it comes out, it's still blue. So this morning Josie greeted me with a blue poo in her diaper...and that can only mean ONE thing: Kentucky must lose. (There, I said it.)
Sunday we got our behinds in gear and did some work around the house. The kids played outside ALL day and loved every minute of it.
Tyson was on a mission to clean out the garage...this is the AFTER picture, so you can imagine what the BEFORE picture looked like... I was on a mission to find my maternity clothes. At almost 21 weeks, I was involved in a heavy rotation of three pairs of jeans, some leggings, and about 8 shirts. Luckily I found all of them (or at least 85%) as I opened up the LAST box in the garage that was marked "Yard Tools" (note to self: don't believe the movers when they label boxes). Also, this is what happens when you move TWO times between pregnancies.
And finally, we officially welcomed SPRING by hanging up the snow shovel. Thanks for your hard work this winter, brother.

Oh wait, one more thing: it is NEVER okay to ask a pregnant woman if she is sure there is "only one baby in there" upon seeing her stomach & hearing her due date. Never okay.

Toddler Art - Couch Edition

I mentioned the other day - Jack's affinity for "ink." Well, he decided to make some "art" on our couch a few weekends ago. I was NOT a happy mommy. Thankfully, the internet AND my Aunt Suzie came to the rescue. Both said that rubbing alcohol would take ink off micro-fiber.
Jack's "tool" of choice was a ball-point pen - but my Aunt Suzie recently had her couch vandalized decorated by my cousin's son, Elliott (aka: an older version of Jack), with a SHARPIE! And she said rubbing alcohol took it out perfectly.
So - if you have a toddler, know a toddler, or think a toddler may try to "spruce up" your couch someday - go ahead and invest (a whole dollar) in some rubbing alcohol! I'm telling you… IT'S MAGIC!
