Memorial Day

Since I am being harassed by members of my family for "never updating the blog." Here is a quick Shot of Jack.  As you can see, he was really loving nursery rhymes this weekend with Grandma Nancy.

We had a great weekend at the lake. I wish the weather would have been better (it was only nice TODAY, the day we had to go home). But we got to see our lake buddies and that made us happy.  Plus, Jack spent lots of time impressing his Grandma and Grandpa Becker. He discovered that they are easily impressed by all of his new "tricks."  Jack's vocabulary is starting to take off and he is becoming so aware of the people/things around him. Plus, he is starting to take an interest in books - which makes me REALLY happy.

I'm looking forward to summer break... only 21 more days (14 full days of school).

Bottoms Up

It's Memorial Day Weekend! Which for a lot of people we know...means lakes, links, friends, bbq's, and some IndyCar Racing! It's also a time to remember those who have sacrificed their lives for us and to celebrate the freedoms we have!

So - whatever type of "bottle" (or sippy cup) you're tipping this weekend...have fun, be safe, and remember to appreciate the weekend for what it is...

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

That's not good...

I had a few moments today that left me shaking my head and saying, "that's not good."

1. I walked into the office after lunch to see one of my students sitting in the nurse's office. Being the nosy caring teacher that I am...I went to see what had happened to him.  It was INDOOR recess. How could he be hurt.  Ohhhhhh, he stapled a staple into his pointer finger. Yeah, "that's not good."

2. My students were taking a math test.  We heard some scratching noses by the window.  It was kind of stormy, so I just thought it was the wind. A few minutes later, the scratching started moving across the ceiling.  There is definitely some type of (large) rodent living above my classroom and "that's not good." (thank goodness I don't have a fear of rodents like my Grandma)

3. Mother Nature is showing her true colors yet again.  We have had an insane amount of rain today and it doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon.  I had to run from my classroom to my car (in sandals) during a monsoon. My mascara was all over my face, my hair was matted to my head. When Tyson got home he discovered water in our basement and the ceiling in our bedroom is leaking. There is more rain on the way tomorrow and "that's not good."

Clean Freak

Jack has few new "tricks" up his sleeve these days.  First, he thinks he can vacuum the floor using his golf bag (as seen above). He goes through the motions, just as I do with the Dyson. I seriously wish I could get a baby vacuum that really worked. I'd have really clean floors.

During Jack's "quarantine" in the house, he also learned where the garbage can is located in the kitchen.  One morning Tyson handed him a wrapper from his breakfast bar, and said, "Jack, go throw that away." Jack walked to the kitchen, opened the cabinet door, and threw the wrapper into the trash. Then he shut the cabinet and walked back to Tyson. Amazing.

Is it possible to be a child prodigy in cleaning? Gosh, I really hope so.

On the Mend

Jack stayed home today with his Daddy. He woke up fever-free - which was a good sign! He spent some of the day being grumpy toward his dad...but finally took a 2hr afternoon nap that left him in much better spirits. We will be attempting a full day at school/work/daycare for everyone tomorrow. Poor Coop & Tuck...they won't know what to do with a quiet, toddler-free house.

Thank you to everyone who checked in on our sick little guy. No doubt, your well-wishes helped him have a speedy recovery.

Bad, Sad Day

When I was in college, my friend George would ask if I was having a "bad, sad day."  Jack is having a bad, sad day today...because he is one sick little boy. We suffered through a very long night. He was running a pretty high fever -  104.3 most of the night. Poor kid.  I woke up early and ran into school, so I could make sub plans (basically I had to do work, so someone else could get paid for the day). When I got home, Tyson left for work and Jack & I headed to the doctor.  He has a double ear infection AND a fun little "daycare disease" called: hand, foot, & mouth disease. Basically he will run a fever for 5 days (we're on day #4), have a rash, and have to deal with sores in the back of his throat. Talk about a bad, sad day!

Luckily, Jack's loyal friend, Tucker, was willing to keep him company and help him feel better. Toddler's best friend.

Saturday

We had a nice Saturday morning. Jack had a chance to Skype with Grandma Shirlee (Grandpa Jerry was golfing, Jack was jealous), Grandma and Grandpa Becker, and Great Aunt Debbie. Yes, Jack Skypes on a 108" screen. He takes Skype very seriously.
This picture makes me laugh because it is "little Tyson."  Jack was trying to escape the basement and go upstairs. Tyson told him "NO!" As you can see, Jack was testing his father. His face and his hand say it all...

Later in the day, Jack enjoyed dancing with the Wiggles. He believes they are the best show on television. I'm ashamed to admit, I know all of the words to their songs. If you've never heard of the Wiggles - consider yourself lucky.

Peek-a-Boo, Friday, I See You!

We're happy it's Friday!

We'd be happier if Jack would realize it's okay to sleep in on the weekends. 7am is NOT sleeping in.

Mmmm....Soapy

Really...there are no words necessary for this post.
My son is drinking bath water out of a frog's rearend.
 Mmmmmmmmm. Soapy.
But so DELICIOUS!

Bright Eyed...and Bushy Tailed

Waking up before Mommy & Daddy leaves plenty of time to play in the morning. But don't be fooled. Jack likes this book because it plays music. As a teacher, his disdain for reading is my biggest obstacle. Maybe if he sat still for more than two minutes at a time...

Golf + Cart =

Jack was very frustrated that his carts is, apparently, "broken." It has holes in it and his clubs kept falling out.

Fort Wayne

We were back in Fort Wayne for just over 24hrs this past weekend. But, as always, we managed in pack our time full of fun! Jack got to show off for all four of his grandparents and his Uncle Joe - who stopped by for a visit. Tyson and I had a "date" to the movie theater to see Bridesmaids (hilarious!) and Sunday we celebrated Caitlin's upcoming nuptials with a Bridal Shower! By the time we arrived back in Detroit - everyone was exhausted. But we all agree it is always nice to be home with our families.

Yes, this is a picture of food. But it is also a picture of Nancy & Denny's new patio furniture. (Devin will appreciate the photo.) It's gorgeous and we wish we could have spent more time outside enjoying it.

Jack - with his staff/cane. You can just call him "Benjamin Button."

Filling Buckets

Yesterday was SO hot and sticky, I decided to fill a few bowls/buckets with water, hand Jack some spoons & cups, and let him splash himself (and me) to cool off! It worked. He was entertained for a good 25-30 minutes, which is about 20 minutes longer than normal. Sydney also stopped by for some water-splashing fun, but I was too busy talking to her Mommy to snap a picture. Darn.

Jack is posing to show off his guns and rock hard abs...
Pouring water on himself was a big hit!
This was taken at 6:55pm and was my (clear) indication that it was time for a bath & bed! Seriously. Have you ever seen a more pathetic face?

Sorry for the delay

The Blogger site has been down for almost two days! And I apologize to our loyal Jack fans. I've had the honor of seeing the little man each day, what have you done?? Kidding. Nothing too exciting has happened.

But...yesterday and today, have been VERY hot here in Michigan. Yesterday was so hot, Jack decided to walk around sans pants. Admit it. Sometimes it's nice to walk around in your underwear. Jack thinks so, at least...

Jack strikes a pose while "hitting the links" without his pants on. We will be discussing proper golf attire.

Mr. Clean

Tonight Jack played the roll of Mr. Clean - as he "mopped" the floor with my new mop. I bought it for myself for Mother's Day (special) and as you can see...it has yet to be opened. That's because when I get home from work - the LAST thing I want to do is clean the house. Apparently, that's not the case for Jack. So have at it, son.

Making a Difference

I made a post a few weeks ago about a classmate who was an organ donor. Yesterday I found out that my sorority sister (and pledge grandma), Melissa, is featured in this month's edition of Ladies Home Journal. You can read the article about her HERE. She's an amazing person inside & out...

Second thoughts...

This is Jack walking into daycare.
And here he is having second thoughts about going into daycare... Last week, for the first time EVER - Jack started bawling when I handed him off to Miss Judy. So I tried a different tactic. I let him walk in, on his own, and then I gave him a quick kiss goodbye. So far, so good.
This is just a random picture of Jack - drinking "wa-wa." He is a silly little man.

Happy Mother's Day!

My day started off right when my husband and son brought home doughnuts for breakfast. Doesn't get much better than that! Wish we could celebrate with all of the special moms and grandmas in our lives! We love all of you!
Happy Mother's Day to all of the special moms out there!

Got Get'Em, Princess

If you live in the Indianapolis area and this looks familiar - it's because Aunt Karley was recently interviewed for Fox 59. Why? Because she is the ONLY Princess running in the Mini-Marathon this weekend! 13.1 miles? No thank you. But we will be cheering for her & sending her positive vibes from the comfort of our bed/couch. Go Get'Em, Princess!

Trash Day

Tomorrow is trash day and it's Tyson's "job" to take out the trash. Since Jack and I were enjoying some sunshine after school - we decided to help Dad out a bit. Jack likes to help.

He also likes to stick his foot in the dog water bowl - notice his left pant leg is wet!?! Yeah, the whole foot was in the bowl, splashing around. Needless to say, I was NOT pleased with his poor choice. And therefore, he wore his wet shoe.

Artist

Jack was busy working on a beautiful piece of artwork tonight. He really enjoys using the "magical" markers I bought him. They are "magical" because they only write on "magical" paper and NOT "magical" couches. We know this is true - because Jack tried it tonight.

Let's Fly!

I think it's very appropriate that Jack's PJ's say: Let's Fly! And Tyson captured Jack in a moment of "flight". I swear, half the battle of parenting a toddler - is keeping your kid out of the back of an ambulance. Lately, I have felt that my Daredevil Son is on a mission to hurt himself. He has NO FEAR - and will (quite literally) walk off the edge of anything (mainly the couch).

Apparently, I should have invested in Band-aid.

Weekend Wrap-up

We enjoyed a nice, low key weekend at home this weekend. It was nice to be able to lounge on the couch - watching the Tigers lose (all three) games to the Indians.  We also enjoyed a dinner with the Jakobsens on Saturday night. Jack hadn't seen Mikkel in a while...apparently, too long. He couldn't get enough Mik time while we were there. Finally, by the time dinner was finished - Molly decided she'd had enough of Jack "stealing" her Daddy.

Back to work and reality tomorrow. Boo.
