Visiting the Pediatrician

We went for our 48hr post-discharge pediatrician visit. Jack now weighs 5lb 11oz and is still 18 inches. It is normal for newborns to lose weight, but we will be working hard to get it back up in the next week or so. The doctor was also concerned about his jaundice levels, so she requested a blood test.

The nurse that took Jack's blood was an older lady who smelled like cigarettes. We affectionately refer to her as "Virginia Slim." Virginia became my least favorite person when she pricked Jack's heel with a needle and then squeezed out - what seemed like - a tablespoon of blood. He screamed bloody murder and my heart broke for him. Post pregnancy hormones are strong and Virginia was lucky I didn't smack her for hurting my precious baby boy.

We got a call this afternoon that Jack's jaundice levels were high and we need to take him back in the morning. If this means another heel prick - I might lose it. Watch out, Virginia!
